This recipe for hummus spread is surprisingly simple to make, and without the preservatives of store bought. 


1 pound can chick peas (garbanzo beans), rinsed or drained (or soak dry beans)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
2 garlic cloves, minced



1. In a blender, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth.
2. Spoon into a bowl. Cover and chill.
3. Serve cold, with vegetables, whole grain tortilla chips, or whole grain pita.
